Bixolon Launches New Compact SLP-TX420 Label Printer

Posted March 8, 2017

The SLP-TX420 is engineered to meet the growing use of smart devices in the printing industry, so is compatible with Mac-based PCs, Android-based tablet PCs, Windows and Linux. It also supports USB dongle-typed WLAN wireless communication as well as basic wired communication.

In addition, Bixolon’s new desktop label printer is equipped with functions such as Smart Media Detection, which distinguishes the type of label and length of paper (gap, black mark, continuous forms, etc) and implements printing work automatically. Other features include auto-recognition of the major programming languages such as ZPL and EPL and output function.

The Energy Star-certified SLP-TX420 features a 242 ft. printing ribbon and print speeds of up to 7″ per second, 17 percent faster than comparable models found in the market according to Bixolon.

The SLP-TX420 also includes Bixolon’s complementary label design program, Label Artist, which can retrieve and print out databases prepared in a file format of Excel, Text or Access.

It is intended for high-frequency printing with the improved durability of major printing components. In addition, it features fast data processing due to a high-capacity memory (64MB SDRAM, 128MB FlashROM) and is capable of printing labels for an extended period of time with the exterior long-length paper using an optional accessory.

Bixolon chief executive officer JS Oh said: ‘People have been thinking that desktop printers are less reliable compared to high-priced industrial printers. However, users of Bixolon’s desktop label printer are highly satisfied by its compact size, work effectiveness, durability and user convenience.

Replacing a Sato M5900RVe with the New CL4NX Series

Posted July 9, 2015

The SATO M-5900RVe was one of the most sought after industrial printers specifically for Direct Thermal printing. Its compact size and efficient design made it one of the most reliable printers on the market. With the discontinuation of the M-5900RVe many users will want to look to the CL4NX series as a suitable replacement.

In many cases the CL4NX is an appropriate replacement model, but due to the print head width differences it’s not always possible. This can be used as a guide to select the proper replacement model. Replacing the SATO M5900 series tabletop printer with the SATO CL4NX printer can be accomplished under the following conditions:

Print area is 4.1” or less and:

  • Media width is 5.04” (128mm) or less
  • CL4NX must be configured with 203dpi print head
  • CL4NX must be set to Direct Thermal Mode

Print area is 4.1” or more:

  • CL4NX can be used only if the printed portion of the label is reformatted to the 4.1” width.
  • CL608e must be used if the print width requires wider than 4.1” and the label cannot be reformatted.

The SATO CL4NX can use the existing M5900 media rolls (6”/152mm O.D.) provided it meets the criteria stated above, but it is now possible to use industry standard media roll size of 8”/203mm or even increase the roll capacity to 10”/254mm O.D., providing more labels per roll and less user intervention replenishing media supplies.
