Datalogic’s Magellan 9800i wins Innovation Award at RBTE

Posted March 28, 2016

Datalogic has announced that it was presented with the Innovation Award at Retail Business Technology Expo 2016.

From a shortlist of sixteen finalists, Datalogic’s Magellan 9800i scanner/scale was selected by a judging panel of industry experts and retailers, including Marks & Spencer and White Stuff, for its ability to read digitally watermarked barcodes that are invisible to the human eye. In describing the winner the judges said “This new concept could truly be regarded as revolutionary. The invisible watermark barcode could eventually replace the long serving barcode as we know it and the potential to speed up all forms of point of sale checkout is enormous.”

The Magellan 9800i scanner’s ability to scan digitally watermarked barcodes means that checkout staff, and customers using self-checkout, no longer need to worry about the orientation of items as they pass them across the scanner. This dramatically increases productivity at the point of sale. The Magellan 9800i scanner holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to scan and bag 50 items with digitally watermarked barcodes.

Mike Doyle, Regional Director UK and Ireland for Datalogic said, “We are delighted that Datalogic and the Magellan 9800i has been recognized by such an elite panel of retail technology experts, especially as we were up against such strong competition. As a supplier to eighteen of the world’s top 25 retailers, Datalogic is committed to driving innovation that helps retailers to not only work more efficiently but that also enables them to deliver a superior customer experience.”

Matt Bradley, RBTE’s Event Director concluded “We know that our exhibitors at RBTE have some amazing innovations that can dramatically change and improve retailers’ businesses. The innovation trail and awards is an excellent platform for our visitors to see the very best solutions, products and services that are shaping the way the retail industry will evolve and Datalogic’s Magellan scanner is a great example of that innovation.”

CipherLab Announces New Strategic Partnership with Petrosoft

Posted February 18, 2016

CipherLab has announced its new strategic partnership with Petrosoft, an end-to-end retail automation company. This partnership expands CipherLab’s distribution channel and market presence by leveraging Petrosoft’s end-to-end retail solutions as well as its sales, support, training and marketing expertise. The addition of CipherLab to Petrosoft’s product catalog enables the company to enhance its product offering with a trusted inventory scanning solution that integrates with its cloud-based back-office solution, C-Store Office.

With industry analysts reporting US shrink rates of as much as 2% of retail sales and an average of 8% in terms of out-of-stocks, technology enables retailers to control these operational risks which can make or break an operation. This partnership highlights the importance of data capture, exchange and integration with the retail platforms that fuel today’s retail ecosystem.

“Our strategic partnership with CipherLab is a reflection of the proven value it delivers to our customers”, said Sergey Gorlov, President and CEO of Petrosoft. “Although Petrosoft integrates with the industry’s leading inventory scanning technologies, the CipherLab 9700 is the only inventory scanner included in Petrosoft’s product catalog. Our decision to add CipherLab to the company’s POS, made-to-order, back-office and fuel management technology is based on the company’s product reputation, value and ease of integration with C-Store Office, Petrosoft’s back-office solution”.

Jacksonville State University Chooses Zebra to Overhaul Campus-Wide Wireless Network

Posted February 12, 2016

Zebra has announced that Jacksonville State University (JSU) has deployed a Zebra Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) for campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity for faculty, students and visitors. The university decided to overhaul its aging Wi-Fi infrastructure in response to increased demand for Internet connectivity. After a multi-vendor assessment, JSU chose a Zebra 802.11ac WLAN to support their current and future wireless needs.

JSU required a high-performance WLAN as classroom assignments are incorporating smartphone apps while tablets and phablets are replacing the binder and composition notebook. In addition, most students are using at least three Internet-connected devices during the typical campus day and maybe more at night in dorms. With such specific needs, JSU sought a vendor that could provide a strong suite of solutions in one portfolio and chose Zebra’s latest 802.11ac WLAN – including NX7500 controllers, AP7502, AP7522 and AP7532 access points – to ensure reliable high-speed Internet access across the 459-acre campus.

The university now offers connectivity for heavy bandwidth applications anytime and everywhere, from the parking lot, campus buildings and housing units to student lounges, eateries, libraries, athletic facilities and even the dorm laundromat. Zebra provided a cost-efficient solution that is easy for JSU’s IT staff to manage. Previously, JSU had a multi-vendor wireless architecture that had become more complex and less interoperable, while failing to provide the level of connectivity needed to keep up with mobile device adoption.
