Infinite Peripherals’ New DPP-255 Mobile Receipt and Label Printer

Posted April 15, 2016

Infinite Peripherals has announced their new DPP-255 mobile printer, a high-speed receipt and label printer. This MFi-certified compact unit has a print speed of 100mm/s, and supports iOS, Android and Windows.

“We are pleased to present our customers with this new solution, which was developed based on their feedback,” said Vitalii Panchencko, mobility operations manager at IPC. “Our customers loved our DPP-250 mobile printer, but told us that they also wanted the ability to print labels. Now we offer that all in the DPP-255.”

Among the fastest mobile printers in its class, the DPP-255 supports the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, along with devices running Android and Windows. The printer helps retail and entertainment environments with rapid line-busting and ticketing, and is ideal for mobile POS receipts, coupons and labels.

The DPP-255 features RS232C interface and USB interface, and offers optional Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communications. It includes two resident fonts and two loadable fonts, along with several resident 1D and 2D barcodes, and the resolution is 203 dpi. The printer runs on a rechargeable, long-life Li-ion battery that yields approximately 20,000-30,000 lines per charge.

The printer also has a label gap sensor, label peeler and an integrated belt clip. It joins IPC’s existing line of mobile printers: the DPP-250, a 2” receipt mobile printer; the DPP-350, a 3” receipt model; and the DPP-450, which prints 4” thermal paper or labels.

Datalogic’s Magellan 9800i wins Innovation Award at RBTE

Posted March 28, 2016

Datalogic has announced that it was presented with the Innovation Award at Retail Business Technology Expo 2016.

From a shortlist of sixteen finalists, Datalogic’s Magellan 9800i scanner/scale was selected by a judging panel of industry experts and retailers, including Marks & Spencer and White Stuff, for its ability to read digitally watermarked barcodes that are invisible to the human eye. In describing the winner the judges said “This new concept could truly be regarded as revolutionary. The invisible watermark barcode could eventually replace the long serving barcode as we know it and the potential to speed up all forms of point of sale checkout is enormous.”

The Magellan 9800i scanner’s ability to scan digitally watermarked barcodes means that checkout staff, and customers using self-checkout, no longer need to worry about the orientation of items as they pass them across the scanner. This dramatically increases productivity at the point of sale. The Magellan 9800i scanner holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to scan and bag 50 items with digitally watermarked barcodes.

Mike Doyle, Regional Director UK and Ireland for Datalogic said, “We are delighted that Datalogic and the Magellan 9800i has been recognized by such an elite panel of retail technology experts, especially as we were up against such strong competition. As a supplier to eighteen of the world’s top 25 retailers, Datalogic is committed to driving innovation that helps retailers to not only work more efficiently but that also enables them to deliver a superior customer experience.”

Matt Bradley, RBTE’s Event Director concluded “We know that our exhibitors at RBTE have some amazing innovations that can dramatically change and improve retailers’ businesses. The innovation trail and awards is an excellent platform for our visitors to see the very best solutions, products and services that are shaping the way the retail industry will evolve and Datalogic’s Magellan scanner is a great example of that innovation.”

Plant Access Grows Its Competitive Edge: Industry-First RFID Case Study

Posted March 14, 2016

Plant AccessIntermec IF2 RFID Readers is a specialised logistics services provider, catering for the green life industry. Plant Access provides a highly efficient service utilising a unique, innovative steel stillage design used to pick, crossdock and deliver nursery plants to Bunnings Warehouse locations across Victoria and South Australia.

Weeding out manual processes

Plant Access manages the orders and provides the steel stillages that are used to transport plant products from over 67 nursery supplier sites to Bunnings stores across Victoria and South Australia. Shipments from different suppliers are consolidated at the Plant Access cross dock facility before orders are transported to Bunnings locations and plants are sold to consumers direct out of the steel stillages.

At any one time, Plant Access has thousands of re-usable steel stillages spread across hundreds of sites throughout the supply chain. Knowing the location of all these stillages and the status of an order was a serious challenge for Plant Access under a legacy paper-based manual ordering system.

A new automated tracking system was necessary to capture real-time data from nursery supplier sites, the Plant Access cross dock logistics facility and the Bunnings stores, in order for Plant Access to have an accurate and instant visibility of their stillage assets and the products they were transporting.
