Zebra’s MC40-HC Now Available with Android KitKat 4.4.2

Posted August 6, 2015

Motorola MC40-HC Handheld ComputersZebra’s popular healthcare-ready MC40-HC mobile computer will soon be available with the robust Android KitKat 4.4.2 operating system. Get a true enterprise mobile experience on a rugged, user-friendly device with the updated MC40-HC.

In hospitals and clinics, mobile computers help nurses and lab technicians improve the quality of patient care and save lives by providing instant access to a wealth of business-critical information: real-time lab results, a change in a patient’s condition, or verification of the ‘5 rights’ of medication administration at a patient’s bedside. Mobility also helps healthcare organizations comply with government and health industry regulations, such as Stage 2 Meaningful Use and JCAHO, without tasking an already overburdened nursing staff and creating additional paperwork that would further reduce time spent caring for patients.

Healthcare staff members get the most benefit when they have the latest in mobile technology. A device that is as fun and easy to use as their own smartphone ensures regular use and integration into the existing working environment. An enterprise-class feature set, from data capture and security to manageability and dependably robust wireless connections, makes the MC40-HC an indispensable tool: Android, the most popular mobile operating system in the world; world-class enterprise data capture capabilities; and Extensions (Mx) from Zebra, which adds enterprise-required features that are missing from standard Android.

Ensure an Accurate Checkout with Datalogic’s Magellan All-Weights Scale Platter

Posted August 4, 2015

Weighing produce at the point of sale works the same way. A long leek, a bunch of Bok Choy, stalks of celery, a cantaloupe, or bag of oranges will all try to disguise their weight. If only a small part of the stalk, bag, or leaves touch a non-weighing surface of the checkout scanner the recorded weight will be less than the true weight

Despite the best training efforts, hurried checkers are often not diligent about making sure that all parts of the produce or the bags containing produce are touching only the weight surface of the scanner/scale. Produce often touches the counter surrounding the scanner/scale or the vertical window of the bi-optic scanner. Checkers tend to place large round produce like cantaloupe against the vertical window to prevent it from rolling. In most scanner/scales this results in lower weights and lost produce sales. In real world tests at grocery retailers, these losses have been measured at .5% to over 2% of all bulk weighed produce. T

The Datalogic All-Weighs scale platter for the Magellan scanner/scale series is a solution that will drastically reduce these losses. The All-Weighs scale platter patented design joins the horizontal and vertical platters to make one solid piece. This solid construction transfers the weight to the scale and ensures accurate weighing.

What ID Card Software Works with my Printer?

Posted July 30, 2015

2015-05-27_0944

What software should you use with your specific ID card printer?

Most printer manufacturers provide their own software that is guaranteed to be compatible with your printer.  For example, Datacard’s TruCredential, Zebra’s ZMotif CardStudio, and Fargo’s Asure ID have various versions and levels of sophistication to meet any need. All of them have general design capabilities, and allow for additional benefits including but not limited to centralized databases, visitor management, and network capabilities.  But are the various software choices only compatible with the same brand of printers? The answer is no.  The software mentioned above are compatible across brands. Your choice should depend on ease of use and features set.  Datacard’s new TruCredential has an extremely easy user-interface and allows you to design process flows for your typical ID needs.  The software, recently released, offers the best of multiple Datacard software (ID Works and TruPhoto).

Replacing a Sato M5900RVe with the New CL4NX Series

Posted July 9, 2015

The SATO M-5900RVe was one of the most sought after industrial printers specifically for Direct Thermal printing. Its compact size and efficient design made it one of the most reliable printers on the market. With the discontinuation of the M-5900RVe many users will want to look to the CL4NX series as a suitable replacement.

In many cases the CL4NX is an appropriate replacement model, but due to the print head width differences it’s not always possible. This can be used as a guide to select the proper replacement model. Replacing the SATO M5900 series tabletop printer with the SATO CL4NX printer can be accomplished under the following conditions:

Print area is 4.1” or less and:

  • Media width is 5.04” (128mm) or less
  • CL4NX must be configured with 203dpi print head
  • CL4NX must be set to Direct Thermal Mode

Print area is 4.1” or more:

  • CL4NX can be used only if the printed portion of the label is reformatted to the 4.1” width.
  • CL608e must be used if the print width requires wider than 4.1” and the label cannot be reformatted.

The SATO CL4NX can use the existing M5900 media rolls (6”/152mm O.D.) provided it meets the criteria stated above, but it is now possible to use industry standard media roll size of 8”/203mm or even increase the roll capacity to 10”/254mm O.D., providing more labels per roll and less user intervention replenishing media supplies.

For assistance finding the right SATO printer for your needs, contact a printer specialist at Barcode Discount.
