Printer “POSse” in Montana Saves the Day

Posted September 8, 2016

Posiflex KS-6715 Point of Sale TerminalsBackground

Set in the background of picturesque Montana lies a busy collection of restaurants known as the Montana Club. Known for their outstanding service and quality of food, the Montana Club prides itself in having a top-notch operation. One of the key issues the Montana Club faced was having food and drinks spill onto their critical POS hardware, causing potential failure of the station, which in turn, disrupts the entire operation.

A Solution to a Messy Problem

When Marcus Stenslie, President of Softbridge Technologies, heard about the spill-resistant, environmentally-hardened features of the Posiflex PP9000 printer, he knew the perfect place to install them. Stenslie has done numerous service calls because the wait staff accidently spills food and liquids in the printer, which has included rice kernels, soy sauce, sugary drinks like daiquiris drying into a sticky mess, and pieces glass from liquor bottles falling off the shelf and exploding on the counter. Stenslie, in busy locations like the Montana Club, recommends thermal over impact printers because of faster speed and greater reliability. “I chose the thermal Posiflex PP9000 printer because it is designed to be impervious to liquids and food spillage and it has a four year warranty, almost twice that of many competitive printers.”

TSC Alpha-3R Printer Helps DRIM Quickly and Efficiently Change Price Labels

Posted August 31, 2016

TSC Alpha-3R POS PrinterDRIM is a family-run company located in Catalonia, Spain specializing in children’s playthings offering a wide range of toys and childcare products as well as hobby items. DRIM recently undertook a huge expansion by making a strategic investment in a 16,000 qm logistics center so they could quickly and effectively deliver to their 75 retail stores. To further increase efficiency, DRIM also needed a system to label its products on a daily basis and facilitate price changes for special offers or during the very critical Christmas season.

“Most of our storefront employees are women, so a lightweight and easy-to-use printer was needed. After testing multiple printers, we finally chose the Alpha-3R “, confides Raul Lleberia, IT Manager at DRIM.
DRIM developed its own software to manage the price labeling application, with all labels being printed directly at the point-of-sale. DRIM uses two label sizes – a standard label to identify everyday prices and a larger, round and two-color label to identify special offers. This allows customers to see the everyday price, then the special offer with the more visible label.

ID Tech receives ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Certification

Posted August 23, 2016

ID Tech has announced that it has received ISO 9001:2015 Certification for its Quality Management System and  ISO 14001:2015 Certification for its Environmental Management System. This achievement highlights ID Tech’s proactive commitment to providing reliable quality product and services while preserving the environment, reducing waste and improving environmental and safety measures in the entire organization.

ISO 9001 is the world’s most widely recognized standard for quality management systems, and its latest revision was published on 23 September 2015. The standard helps organizations consistently meet the needs of customers and other key stakeholders in both the delivery and continuous improvement of products and services.

ISO 14001 is the world’s first international standard for environmental management systems, with its latest revision published on 15 September 2015. This standard helps organizations comply with environmental regulations, minimizing their environmental footprint and improving their environmental performance.

The new standards both feature a high level structure (HLS) – including terms, definitions, headings and text common to all management system standards in accordance to ISO Annex SL – allowing easier integration when implementing multiple management systems. Both of the new standards improve over previous revisions by requiring organizations to focus on process and prioritize business needs, improving efficiency by implementing organizational-wide risk based thinking, better risk management, and enhanced leadership responsibility.

“We are fully committed to Quality Excellence through continual improvement. For us, the main objective of ISO 9001:2015 is to provide confidence in our organization’s ability to consistently provide customers with reliable quality products and services, as well as to enhance customer satisfaction.’’, said Jim Pacheco, Director of Global Quality of ID Tech. “With regards to our new ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system, we have adopted measures to reduce the environmental impact of our operations, while at the same time establishing programs for raising environmental awareness, recycling and appropriate disposal of waste among our employees and suppliers.”

Zebra’s MP6000 POS Scanner Helps Retails Speed Checkout and Improve Customer Satisfaction

Posted August 19, 2016

Zebra MP6000 Barcode ScannersDigimarc Corporation has announced that Zebra has enabled its MP6000 multi-plane bioptic imager to detect Digimarc Barcodes, driving faster retail checkout. Digimarc Barcodes, part of the Digimarc Discover platform, are not visible to consumers and can be incorporated into virtually any form of media, including product packaging, without taking space compared with traditional UPC barcodes or QR codes.

By deploying the Digimarc Embedded Software Development Kit (SDK), Zebra’s MP6000 bioptic imager allows retailers to scan Digimarc Barcodes on product packaging as well as traditional paper-based 1D barcodes and 2D mobile coupons on shoppers’ smartphones. The fully integrated solution can significantly reduce checkout time by increasing the average number of items scanned per minute, helping to improve operating margins, customer satisfaction and cashier productivity for retailers.

“Together with Digimarc, we’re offering a solution to quickly scan items without having to find and position the traditional barcode toward the reader, resulting in cost savings for retailers and better experiences for store associates and their customers,” said Bob Sanders, general manager and senior vice president of data capture solutions, Zebra Technologies. “Consumers will benefit from shorter wait times at the cash register and find that self-checkout is simple, quick and easy.”

“Zebra creates innovative solutions that make shopping a seamless and easy experience for consumers,” said Sean Calhoon, vice president of product management, Digimarc. “They are a respected original equipment manufacturer with a global footprint. Their adoption of the Digimarc platform is helping retailers who are adopting Digimarc Barcode to create a more efficient retail environment.”

Zebra’s MP6000 is the latest product release from a major retail hardware OEM that can read Digimarc Barcodes on product packaging, deli labels, cash register receipts and similar retail and grocery applications.
