Aerohive AP250 and AP245X 802.11ac Wave 2 Wireless Access Point

Posted April 3, 2017

Aerohive AP245X Access PointsAs WLAN capacity requirements soar, the AP250 and AP245X are excellent choices to provide instant adaption to ever-changing capacity needs. New high-performance mobile devices and demanding applications continue to change how connected enterprises do business. With a constantly changing client landscape and new Internet of Things (IoT) devices on the horizon, enterprises are challenged to have network infrastructure for the clients and devices of today while anticipating the connectivity needs of the future.

To address escalating connectivity demands today, Aerohive introduced the AP250 and the AP245X, two new cloud-managed 802.11ac Wave 2 access points that are the first to deliver enterprise-class capabilities and uncompromised wireless functionality while operating on existing standard wired infrastructure of 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE). The access points also feature integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Both the AP250 and the AP245X are built on Aerohive’s proven RF-IQ technology to deliver great Wi-Fi. RF-IQ incorporates distributed control radio intelligence, such as automated channel and power selection, load balancing, band steering, and other capabilities that enable complex radio functionality.

The AP250 is the only Wave 2 and BLE solution that can operate in dual 5GHz mode with uncompromised performance for increased capacity, without PoE switch upgrades. Aerohive’s patent-pending RF-IQ antenna and the first-of-its-kind network technology provide polarization and spatial diversity which ensures performance even in dual 5GHz mode, delivering uncompromised performance under 802.3af power budget.

The AP245X delivers Wave 2 with external antennas and a rugged design for challenging environments, such as warehouses, manufacturing floors, and extreme temperature environments. Both the AP250 and the AP245X access points feature integrated BLE and a USB port to enhance location-driven services and provide additional wireless connectivity options for IoT and other devices.

Ruckus Adds ZoneFlex 7781-CM Outdoor Access Point to its Smartcell Product Line

Posted February 23, 2017

Ruckus ZoneFlex 7781-CM Access PointsRuckus has launched its new Ruckus ZoneFlex  7781-CM outdoor access point (AP) with Ruckus BeamFlex adaptive antenna technology. The ZoneFlex 7781-CM is another key ingredient in the Ruckus SmartCell Architecture, which provides a proven recipe for building carrier class Wi-Fi networks to deal with the wireless data challenge sweeping across the industry. The Ruckus ZoneFlex 7781-CM can be strand-mounted on a multiple system operator’s (MSO’s) aerial cable plant or it can be pedestal, wall or pole mounted as required. The ZoneFlex 7781-CM supports the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) 3.0, EuroDOCSIS 3.0, and JCTEA STD-005 (Japan).

The integrated DOCSIS modem technology in the Ruckus ZoneFlex 7781CM allows Wi-Fi traffic to be backhauled over the Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) cable plant and powered from the cable plant at the same time. The ZoneFlex 7781-CM features an extremely compact, lightweight form factor that is consistent with the requirements for strand mounting on aerial plant.

Leveraging Ruckus BeamFlex technology, the ZoneFlex 7781-CM offers a greatly improved user experience in a wide variety of outdoor deployment scenarios. It can increase subscriber gain by as much as 6 dB and interference mitigation by as much as 15 dB, both of which are important in high-density applications. MSOs have been moving aggressively to deploy Wi-Fi technology as a way to provide additional services for their subscribers, reduce churn, and improve their competitive position.

Ruckus Redefines High-Speed, High Capacity Wi-Fi with R710 Industry’s First 802.11ac Wave 2 Access Point

Posted July 6, 2016

Ruckus Wireless has unveiled the ZoneFlex R710 Access point, the industry’s first Wi-Fi AP based on Wave 2 features of the 802.11ac standard that extends Wi-Fi to enable multi-gigabit Wi-Fi performance and unprecedented capacity.

The new Ruckus ZoneFlex R710 is the first Wi-Fi access point to now support major technical advances in the 802.11ac standard that allow the simultaneous transmission of multiple client streams to different devices over the same frequency, a highly anticipated new capability called multi-user multiple input/multiple output (MU-MIMO). This enables over two times the density of mobile devices versus Wave 1, and aggregate data rates exceeding two gigabits per second.

Among the first organizations to deploy the ZoneFlex R710 within a production environment, the City of San José, CA sees big value in the migration to new 802.11ac Wave 2 technology.

“We are at an inflection point in the industry as we deal with insatiable demand for wireless capacity and speed,” said Vijay Sammeta, Chief Information Officer for the City of San José. “We need to be able to plan and prepare for devices and services we haven’t even seen yet. Wave 2 represents an investment in a platform that not only meets our current needs, it will also meet those in the future that we can’t even predict. Delivering our Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi service has become a distinct competitive advantage for the City of San José. The Ruckus ZoneFlex R710 helps us take this to the next level.  It’s simply the best performing Wi-Fi access point we’ve ever deployed, even without multi-user MIMO clients.”

According to Sammeta, after installing the Ruckus ZoneFlex R710, the City was able to achieve dramatic performance improvements, reaching over 445 megabits per second speed with two-stream-capable laptops, and over 200 megabits per second with single-stream mobile smart phones.

“The R710 is an extraordinary feat of engineering that marks a new era for our industry,” said Selina Lo, president and CEO of Ruckus Wireless. “The work and innovation we’ve put into the R710 reflects our leadership in delivering the world’s best in class wireless products that stand the test of time.”
