Optimizing On-Site Card Production with Zebra’s New ZXP Series 7 Pro

Posted April 22, 2016

Zebra has expanded and improved on their existing ZXP Series 7 printers with the new ZXP Series 7 Pro to meet today’s increasing need for service bureaus and governments to quickly set up and issue secure, reliable forms of identification while improving the efficiency and speed of large print jobs.

Specifically designed to meet the needs of high volume printing applications. the ZXp Series 7 Pro has the feature set made for performance.

Larger capacity input and output hoppers – With high-capacity input and output hoppers holding up to 250 plastic cards, users can produce larger batches without the need for constant staff oversight.

First in, first out (FIFO) card sequence – As cards are produced, they are ordered in a first-in, first-out sequence in the new stacking output hopper. This coordination eliminates the need for sorting cards once the print job is completed.

Easy loading of synchronized supplies  – Users can quickly and easily reload supplies and collect finished cards via the removable input and output hoppers. And, the high-capacity hoppers are perfectly synchronized with Zebra’s high-capacity ribbons. With 750 images per ribbon roll, users can print three full batches of cards before needing to change ribbon. This results in additional savings in operator time and fewer production interruptions.

Reliable performance and photo-quality printing – Like the ZXP Series 7, this new Pro version delivers the same fast yet reliable performance and prints sharp, vivid cards with photo-quality images. With the included magnetic encoder, service bureaus are ensured reliable printing and encoding operations. Available with optional features like single- or dual-sided laminating, smart card encoding, connectivity options, and locking mechanisms for security, the ZXP Series 7 Pro is flexible to meet business needs now and in the future.

Dartmouth Finds Foolproof Method for ID Card Printing with the ZXP Series 7

Founded in 1769, Dartmouth is a member of the Ivy League and consistently ranks among the world’s greatest academic institutions. The school has approximately 4,200 undergraduate and 2,100 graduate students.

At Dartmouth, the DA$H card is “the most important piece of plastic” students carry. With their student identification cards, they access dorms and special classrooms, buy meals, check out library books, wash laundry, print documents, attend athletic events, and even pay for items and activities such as ski passes, canoe rentals or ballroom dance lessons. All on-campus establishments accept the pre-loaded DA$H card.

“The only things a student needs to carry on campus are a cell phone and DA$H card. It’s accepted everywhere so there’s no need to carry any cash,” said Heidi Bellimer, Card Office Manager and a 28-year staffer at Dartmouth.

Faculty, staff and thousands of people who attend summer camps also receive Dartmouth identification cards. In total, the university’s Card Office prints more than 10,000 cards annually – up to 300 on the busiest days.

As the university’s previous card printers aged, Card Office staff members were frustrated by slow printing and the amount of time operators spent changing supplies or fixing jams. Additionally, the printers didn’t always encode cards correctly, requiring a second step to verify encoding – adding significant time to producing each card.

But it was difficult to find printers that would work with the university’s Lenel access control system, which houses student information and photos. The Lenel On-Guard access control system has a limited list of approved printer models for use with the production of ID cards.
