The embedded software in the hub facilitates system configuration and displays real-time tag locations through a browser-based GUI interface driven by a Java™ environment. The hub delivers power, data, and clock to the Zebra UWB sensors over a single shielded Ethernet cable, allowing for simple and rapid sensor installations. The Hub software provides the ability to operate Zebra UWB Sensors in “proximity” mode. A standard RTLS Sensor can be transformed into a proximity reader with a fully adjustable UWB read range. The Zebra UWB system includes System Builder, an advanced virtual planning tool that helps in installing and optimizing the Zebra UWB system. System Builder is used to establish the site and sensor coordinates, simulate the coverage of the Zebra UWB sensors, and define reference and virtual groups to fine-tune installation performance. It produces a site file that is downloaded to the hub, which configures all RTLS settings.

Zebra UWB sensors are distributed around the area beginning from the hub and are often chained from one sensor to another. The Zebra UWB lineup features three primary sensors, each with a built-in antenna (High-gain, Mid-gain, and Omni). The Zebra UWB system provides leading-edge range and design versatility while delivering top-tier UWB location precision at a minimal investment. The lineup also includes a bulkhead sensor that attaches to an external antenna suitable for outdoor and hazardous environments. This setup allows the sensor to be housed in a weatherproof or intrinsically safe enclosure with the antenna situated outside the enclosure, delivering optimal range and performance akin to the standard integrated sensor options. For hazardous environments, Zebra offers a sensor that is pre-assembled within an enclosure certified for use in potentially explosive areas as specified by the ATEX Directive.
